Marc McAleavey

Community Analysis Program Manager

Marc McAleavey is guided by the African proverb “When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion.” Collaboration and service has driven his work of over two decades as a community and organizational leader.

Marc is The Polis Center’s Community Analysis Program Manager where he leads the development and implementation of community analysis projects of the center and operational management of assigned community analysis staff. He previously served as Program Director of Digital Advancement Initiatives at Centri Tech Foundation and as Executive Director of Serve Indiana Serve, the state’s commission on volunteerism and service focused on ensuring that every Hoosier serves their community. Prior to joining Serve Indiana as their executive director, Marc served as the founding executive director of Playworks Indiana and, prior to that, the founding executive director of Public Allies Indianapolis at the Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center, where he also served as the evaluation and documentation manager.

McAleavey founded The Zawadi Exchange, an Asset Based Community Development organization.  Marc has served on numerous boards of nonprofit organizations and provided keynote addresses for many conferences, authored articles and book chapters, and routinely presents at conferences and symposia. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Indiana University-Purdue University/Indianapolis as well as a Master of Social Work degree from the Indiana University School of Social Work, where he has taught graduate level macro-practice courses and supervises MSW practicum students as an adjunct professor. Marc lives near downtown Indianapolis with his wife and two teenage children and can often be spotted running in Indianapolis’ beautiful urban neighborhoods.
