Kevin Mickey

Director, Professional Development and Geospatial Technology Education

Kevin is a recognized expert in the application of geospatial technologies in support of natural hazard risk analysis and emergency management. In addition to developing, managing, and supporting risk related projects, he also designs and instructs practitioner and academic courses on a variety of geospatial topics and technologies. Kevin has over three decades of consulting experience for multiple U.S. federal agencies as well as many state and local government, private sector, academic, and nonprofit organizations.

He is a Past President of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), an internationally recognized leader in the geospatial profession with multiple state, provincial, and regional chapters. In addition to his role as Past President, Kevin has chaired URISA’s Professional Education, Community Resilience, and Core Docs committees. He received the URISA Leadership Award in 2018. Kevin is also the former chair of the Multihazard Mitigation Council (MMC) of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) and a former member of the Indiana Geographic Information Council Board of Directors. He currently serves on the National Visiting Committee of the National GeoTech Center of Excellence.

Kevin earned a B.A. degree in Geography and a Master of Planning degree from Indiana University. He is also a Certified GISP Professional (GISP), a CompTia CTT+ Certified Classroom Trainer and an Esri Certified Desktop Associate.
