After 16 months of exploration and planning, including two visits to Amrita University campuses in India and many virtual workshops and meetings, that the Virtual Center of Excellence in Data for Good is official!  On January 15, Chancellor Ramchand (IU Indianapolis) and Provost Ramesh (Amrita) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize the partnership between the two universities. This will be a multi-disciplinary initiative with many IU Indianapolis units involved. The Polis Center will be the lead for IU Indianapolis. Sharon Kandris will be center’s co-director and Karen Comer will be co-associate director with our counterparts in the Office of Sustainable Communities at Amrita. We are in the process of finalizing the governance structure and first year plan of work. Through this work, Polis will expand our partnerships within IU Indianapolis and internationally, engage with more faculty, grow our contributions to the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals, and collaboratively design and test new approaches to using data and information technology for good.
