The Polis Center is pleased to announce the second in the SmartEdge: Smart Government, Smart Environment, Smart Communities series of presentations sponsored by the Polis Center at IUPUI and its partners. The presentations reflect on the positive role of science and technology in support of sustainability and quality of life. “Smart City & Intelligent Public Safety Solutions” will be held Friday, July 15, from 12:30-3:00 p.m. in the Ambassador Meeting Room at Sleep Inn & Suites and Conference Center, 1244 W. 16th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. GUEST SPEAKER: Nour Shawky, CEO, Softec International in the United Arab Emirates, will address the challenges of keeping up with higher crime rates and terror and regional threats, as well as monitoring and controlling risks to meet citizen demands for public safety and national security. The presentation will discuss the technological platforms that can be built to streamline and improve public safety and justice operations, reduce first response times, efficiently manage emergencies and crisis, and intelligently analyze and predict information. Emphasis is placed  on situational domain awareness, improving communication, and mobility and cloud technologies to offload workloads and align different organizations and departments to form safer cities in a smarter way.

Shawky has been extensively engaged in managing projects of national scales. He has built Softec International into one of the leading smart city and IoT software solutions companies covering areas of public safety, emergency management, fleet & transportation management, and agriculture and energy. He graduated from the University of Passau, Germany with a degree in computer science, receiving the faculty prize for excellence and earning the top grade of the graduation year. He earned his MSc with Distinction in Software Systems Engineering/Financial Stream from University College London and London Business School.

ABOUT THE SERIES: The presentations are designed to share and discuss ideas and issues and/or expose the audience to solution and technologies pertaining to smart cities and their linkage to sustainability and resilience, policy and governance, and the overall well-being of communities.

SmartEdge guest speakers are thinkers, idea-generators, and implementers of smart city initiatives from industrial, research, governmental, and community entities. The series is geared for those with interest in any of the issues surrounding the concept of the smart city, whether technologic, economic, policy, service, or impact-wise.
