Matt Nowlin, Polis Interim Community Analysis Manager,  and Erik Steiner, Creative Director of the Spatial History Project at Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA) at Stanford University, developed about the relationship between redlining and modern home loan approval practices. They examined more than one million loan applications filed in Central Indiana from 2007 to 2020 to investigate racial and geographic differences in loan denial rates. The aim was to determine if Black borrowers are still more likely to be denied in historically redlined areas. Highlights from the study were presented at the April 14 Data & Drafts event in partnership with the Indianapolis Public Library and WFYI Public Media. W
