“New research from IUPUI’s Polis Center has identified the Indianapolis neighborhoods where there is the greatest need for greenspace such as tree canopy cover, native planting areas and parks.
The researchers looked at whether a neighborhood does not have enough current greenspace and whether residents may have a higher need for it due to prevalence of problems like air pollution and diabetes among residents.
“Due to historical inequities related to practices such as redlining,” states the report, written by researchers at the community information system SAVI, “access to modern greenspace and the associated benefits may be less for low-income residents and/or individuals from minority groups….” Read more
